Poem-A-Day. Day 26. A love poem.

Better love poem

It’s been a while

since I’ve written you

a love poem, like

I used to do

under the July moon,

the pomp of lavender in the air.

All the newness gone,

I’m left with the familiar way

you curl your lip,

put the glasses in the cupboard rim down,

so I can turn them over when you leave the room.

Back then, you were awash in the glitter

of imagination. Not knowing,

I made you perfect,

a human tendency.

Isn’t it a better love poem

to say you can be proud,

disorganized, distracted,

downright defensive

in your gorgeous humanity?
